They’re one of the big names in mobile phones. They’re a huge company, made of Japanese and Swedish brilliance. They are Sony Ericsson.
Who is Sony Ericsson?
Sony Ericsson is the 4th biggest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world, and the second biggest in the UK. That’s an important distinction to make, and I’ll come back to it later. But for now, suffice to say they’re one of the big boys, with one of the most instantly recognizable names in the mobile world. And if it isn’t obvious from the name, Sony Ericsson are actually made up of a joint venture between two companies (no prizes for guessing it’s Sony and Ericsson…) That gives a vast wealth of expertise to draw from; from Ericsson, years of experience in the world of mobile phones and from Sony, even longer in the world of fabulously-groovy consumer electronics.
In essence then, what you’re getting is a perfect marriage of worlds, with Sony Ericsson. With that intimate knowledge of mobile phones, combined with Sony’s seemingly bottomless pockets and consumer innovations, it’s a recipe that leads to greatness. Sure, they may not have the might (yet) to take on the almighty Nokia (but then, who does??), but their mobile phones are blazing their very own red hot trail through the world.
Mobile phones – the cream of the crop
So, which Sony Ericsson mobile phones stand out as being true world-beaters? Well, for starters, in the world of camera phones (one of the biggest areas in the hisory of mobile devices, EVER), they stand proud with their Cyber-Shot range of phones, the flagship model of which, the K850i, is frighteningly powerful, and at 5 megapixels, produces frighteningly good photos. Seriously, I’m talking proper, standalone digital camera quality, here! So, that’s camera phones in the bag. But they also excel at music phones, and their Walkman-series of mobile phones are synonymous with pure musical excellence. Having tried one myself, I can honestly tell you, they rock. Big time!
They’re the main product ranges, but Sony Ericsson have other ranges, from fashion phones, to smartphones… and when I say smartphones, I mean ‘really, really smart, probably smarter than me’ phones. So, from the ranks of the fashionistas, you have the T650i and S500i, and from the ranks of their smartphones, you have the current grand master, the mighty P1i, which I consider to be the single best smartphone on the market (well, I would, that’s the phone I use). Well, it will be until the P5 comes out later in the year… And then, of course, there is the new X1 Xperia, designed to crack the America market.
